Can anyone on here read/write chinese?

Recommended Posts

I was just thinking that it would be awesome if someone on here could translate between the dealers' mother tongue and english as it would make it a whole lot easier communicating sometimes, especially when dealing with those with less english than others... (*cough*hont*cough* :) lol)

Wasn't there someone joined recently from china??

Luth - are you fluent?!

All my staff just about read and speak Chinese although they never seem to understand each other in anything but Thai. There are dozens of different versions of it

Yeah, this is the problem! lol :D

I have opted for google translator's "Traditional Chinese" and tweaked my wording so when the chinese translation was fed back into it, it came out as understandable English... lol

Let's hope Hont can understand either that or my original english that I've included! :)

I can speak both cantonese and thai but I can read neither of the languages.

HK mainly speaks cantonese, but now some of the people are starting to learn mandarin to deal with china.

China only speaks mandarin.

Written chinese is universal, it can be read by both cantonese and mandarin speakers

Thai has a 44 consonants and 32 vowels (holy crap!)

It's bloody complicated! lol

Why could the chinese not opt for a simple alphabet of limited letters, rather than a million different picture representations?!

Thai sounds like, er, fun... LoL

Practically Putong Hua (Mandarin) is widely used in HK, and absolutely all Guandong people speaks Putong Hua, despite on that Cantonese is native language of Guandong province.

They do have Roman alphabet kind of writing, it's called "pinyin", but it's not correct English pronounsation, for example, Qi they pronounce as Chi, etc.

Yes, what'd you want to translate or write? I can help.

Some of the above sounds wierd LOL, but its comprehendible

他們是我的手錶?< = they are my watch, this is a statement and not a question you are missing the question indicator. Also I think chinese use a different word when referring to things (like watches) 他們 is used for people.

When I first joined these forums, I had a problem with my first order from DSN, so I thought it would help to explain to him in a language he knew quite well what my problem was. I had another member translate a few paragraphs, explaining the problems and possible solutions, into Cantonese. Hopefully, I thought, this would eliminate any "pls study ok" type emails from him.

Well, I sent him the email, and an hour later I got a response from him:

"I do not accept communication in Chinese, English only, ok"

From then on I realized he uses the "language barrier" for his benefit. I understand he may be of Japanese birth, but before getting the translation done, I confirmed with a couple of long time members, who had established a relationship with him, that he is definitely fluent in written and spoken Cantonese.

What a waste of time, especially for the member who did the translating for me.
