My Nomos Journey

Recommended Posts

I'm seriously ready to drop a few thousand overseas for this fellow. The seller seems solid and replies quickly according to their timezone. Are there any red flags at all I might want to be aware? I'm going to use PayPal.

Any comments appreciated!

By the way it's about $470 below Nomos factory direct.

Oh and I'm waiting for an answer if their final price I asked includes duty/taxes. If I order direct from Nomos, it includes duty/taxes which will cut that savings down to "forget about third party" range.

Shit, man, that watch is a thing of beauty, and if you've got the funds for it and your instincts tell you to pull the trigger, all I've got to say is:

Watch looks good, he is TS so I guess little risk.

He lives 30 min away from me, if he cheats I can pay him a visit :D

Well, looks like I'll buy direct from Nomos in Glashutte. It's not worth the tiny bit of savings to go third party.

I've put out a final inquiry for the Tangomat. I'm currently $~250 short and I'm hoping not to cut one more watch from my stable for it, but I might. I have until Monday to decide (for me) whether I'll go the 38mm Tangente or Tangomat -- both with sapphire caseback.

Thanks guys!

Ok it's decided. I'm going to sell my SOSF too. Damn the cupboard is so bare, but I know once the dust settles from the Nomos, I can resume filling activities once more! :)

The worst part is you look at your PayPal account, see the huge chunk of change and think... how many reps could I (re)buy with that!

Maybe I should just get this.

It's now a fight to the death and price negotiations. This is the shortlist:

Tangente 38mm, Sapphire Back

- this is the size I'd like but it's manual wind

tangente38_front.png

Tangent 35mm Gangreserve:

- if it's a manual wind then a power reserve is a big plus, but it's "only" 35mm

Tangomat 38mm, Sapphire Back

- no power reserve needed because it's an auto, it's just a few hundred out of the budget

Tetra 30mm Gangreserve, Sapphire Back

- manual wind, it's neat -- maybe small

Tetra zartbitter 30mm, Sapphire Back

- this is pretty neat, if small

With all the reps and the style of the watches you've bought in the past, I'm surprised to see you going so gung ho over these. Totally doesn't match the previous models

Gotta say I'm not a fan of them, but if I had to choose one, I'd go with the first one.

All of them are so small. You sure they'll look good on your wrist?

I'd get the Tangomat 38mm, Sapphire Back, noting its a few hundred out of your budget.

If it's TRULY out of the budget get the same in manual wind. Manual wind are beautiful, esp in a quality gen piece.

Have you ever worn a 35mm? They feel very small.

I only have a 6.3 wrist. 35 is a bit small though. The Explorer I 36 was ok.

Mate, different dials look bigger than they actually are. Its really hard to tell.

Hopefully you make the right decision.

Yeah my wrist is similar but anything smaller than a 38 IMHO is too small, unless it's like a vintage dress watch (patek calatrava etc). The Nomos is a lovely watch but it doesn't look that thin, hence 38mm would be my choice.

Good luck with your decision!

The manual winds are 6.2mm. Considered thin?

Autos are thicker at 8.2mm.
