How To: Bracelet Rattle Fix

Recommended Posts

P4GTR

The hollow mid link bracelet on my sub made more noise than a virgin on

prom night. Now it's as quiet as a celibate mute.

I'm into biking, mountain biking specifically. My first job was actually in a bikeshop. Anyhow, I finally decided to test my theory, that a really high end dry lube

would solve bracelet rattle. (not the same dry lube used on movements)

Let me tell you, it works. Not only does it work, it cleans the bracelet,

protects it, and basically time-release waxes it.

I used Rock N Roll Extreme chain lube.

White lightning or a similar product should work as well. Go to a bike shop

and ask for dry lube for the chain. Dry lube should have sediment at the bottom of the bottle-

Don't be shy with the lube application. This isn't one drop, 3 in 1

oil. Remove the bracelet and lay it on some paper towels on an appropriate

work surface. Shake the lube vigorously then immediately squirt a healthy

stream down the bracelet. Work it into the links by moving the bracelet

around. I started with what I would consider an extremely clean bracelet,

and after squirting lube on it, it was dripping black residue.

A 1/4tsp of mineral oil can be added to the mix for a more viscous lube. This can extend the period of time between having to redo this process. Mineral oil is food grade and will add some "weight" to the protective properties and feel of this method.

Let it sit and dry for a few. The solvent will evaporate and the wax in the

dry lube will set. 10 minutes is more than enough time. Wash your bracelet

in soap and water. Dry and buff with a towel.

No oily residue. No rattle. Great feel.

All things considered, if they were forced to choose; i'd bet virgins on

prom night would probably prefer the nipple cream. I know, I digress.

No other method has worked nearly as well for me. The bracelet lube, I mean, guttermind.

Absolutely. White lightning would be what I would recommend if you can't find Rock n Roll.

Could this method be used to loosen up a stiff Breitling bracelet?

And what kind of noise was the Rolex bracelet making? I'm not sure I know what a noisy bracelet sounds like...

Just squirt some serious amount onto the bracelet, will wash off later to see how it goes.

Higs

WD40 in a shallow tray.

Wiggle bracelet around a bit to free it up.

Marvel at the mucky grey colour of the WD40.

Rinse with warm, soapy water.

Wipe dry then leave to dry further.

Squirt liberally with Purple Extreme.

Leave overnight.

Polish off.

Wonder why you've never done this before.

I think I will do that with my PO.

The bracelet feels hollow and is pretty tight :P

As I have a lot of on- & offroad bikes I also have a large selection of different (chain) lubes and have tried all of them on various bracelets: The best result by far has been when using the Dupont Dry Lube.

I must say that the dry lube method was abit sticky. I used more wd40 and solvents to get it clean after than i use with the wd40 method alone. I must have done something wrong...
