Ska 11 Posted June 7, 2010 On a real planet ocean the helium release valve allows a professional diver to purge their watch of built up helium accumulated during a prolonged dive. Helium molecules present in the helium/air mix used for very deep dives is a really small molecule and in a pressurised diving bell or sub these molecules can get past the seals in the watch. On decompression if the valve isn't released the build up of pressure can crack or displace the crystal and/or cause serious internal damage. Hence the release valve. Hope that helps!!
