IWC 3717 Flieger Chrono Replica

Recommended Posts

DaytonaD

Hi All,

Looking at my first IWC Replica purchase & really liked the look of the IWC 3717 Flieger Chronograph.

After looking at Wiz's excellent review here -> http://www.rwg.bz/bo...showtopic=10599

I thought I'd see what I can find, & came across this offering from a Trusted Dealer, who was very kind enough to supply some pics of their rep.

I reckon it looks very close to the one that Wiz reviewed (except the SS strap)

Keen to hear people's thoughts around this particular example rep.

  1. Any issues that anyone can notice with this one?
  2. I prefer the stainless steel strap, but wanted to know - was the genuine 3717 available with a stainless steel strap, or is this some sort of hybrid 3777?

As far as I know, the Gen comes with a choice of leather or SS. This is a great looking example. It does seems so suffer the same flaw as the current IWC Mark XVII - is the dial skewed to the left or is it just the angle? It will be my next rep purchase so long as I can find a decent example.

The weirdest thing is that the seconds (chrono) hand is moving...is it FAUX?

Hi All,

Thanks for your replies.

SeptemberSun - thanks for confirming this was available with a ss strap

I'll be placing an order today & will send some more pics through of the actual watch when it arrives.

Best Regards,

3717 is one of my fave reps. The gen with bracelet is model 3717.04

It's a great rep overall. Things to watch for are the alignment of the markers. Especially the 12 o'clock triangle can be crooked. Check the DW alignment too.

On a more picky gen vs rep comparison... There are other easy tells if you are familiar with the gen, but very few people know this watch as a gen mid so it's not likely to get noticed/ called out.

Look at the sub dials, looks like the chrono has been running for 2 hours 24 mins, so no it's not a faux chrono!

@OP DayonaD

1. Pls get it. It looks brilliant.

2. Take a bunch of pics, & post 'em here in IWC section. Just in case I copy you, how much are they asking for this on SS bracelet?

Go for the steel strap. Its an OEM piece you cam buy at IWC for thoses watches.

You can get the gen leather strap at IWC for 60 euros, and it looks much better than the rep strap.

One of my all time favorite watches... very nice rep too. I'd be interested to know where you found this one, it looks better than what I have found.

I figured, so but I was indeed surprised to see it having being running for that long.....

I now have it (with SS strap) & got to say its one of my favourite watches - looks & feels great on the wrist. :D

Need to take a link out of the strap now to sit just right (I prefer a tight fit).

Also - Correct regarding the large second hand (for chrono) - it does not move unless chrono is engaged.

Hi All,

Just to give you all an update on this watch after the first year.
It certainly is one of my favorites, & has worked perfectly for the past 12-months.
:D

However, most unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago it is no longer working. :(

Showing their excellent reputation for great customer service (Rochest - WI) graciously offered to repair it if I can send it back to him, however the costs for sending there & return almost are 50% of the cost of a new one.
I actually took it to a few watchmakers here in Melbourne - one of them didn't even notice it was a copy, the other (who services a lot of very-expensive genuine makes) said it was one of the best he's ever seen - all say they could service it for $350-$450 (more than what I paid originally)

Rochest also recommended offshore-allan (on these forums) may be able to help here in Australia - who I'll need to look up.

If anyone can please let me know who I could use to get one of these (Asian 7750 mechanism) repaired / serviced locally (Melbourne) & what cost to expect that would be great?

Would love to see this one back in action.
Cheers
D.

A new movement is about US$145 on eBay. If you can swap it yourself that is a good solution. I did it with a Breitling and it's running very well. Smoothest winding 7750 I have, keeps excellent time.

That sounds like a plan.

The a7750 usually has one part that dies.

You can't get parts for them.

Just buy a new one and swap the movements.

A few $ on tools and some research.....

Yes and when you have swapped a couple, you suddenly find you have dead movements with spare bits in them so it starts to become possible to try fixing them too.

Hi All,

Thanks for the tips.

I originally thought about swapping out the mechanism for a new one, but would prefer to hand it over to someone who knows what they are doing...

already have too many hobbies + not enough free time ;)

Can anyone recommend who I could give it to in Melbourne to pay to do this for me?

Would also be happy for them to service it, if it was >$250 for a fix / service.

Cheers,

-D
