debian 0 Posted June 12, 2010 I think that IWC Portofino is a really god looking watch... But there is not so much discussion about reps of this watch. I could not find reviews of it on the boards. Why is that? are there not any good reps available?
greg_r 81 Posted June 12, 2010 The problem with the Porto is the seconds@6. The watch runs a modified Asian 7750 movement, which is designed to have secs@9. The modification to move the seconds subdial to 6 involves an extra plate and gearing - which adds a lot of drag to the movement and can cause reliability problems (this is the same problem as you'll see reported for the Daytona rep). This has reduced the popularity of the Porto as a rep. There's a new version of the movement being used in the latest Daytonas which appears to be more reliable - I don't know whether it's made it to the Porto yet, though. debian 0 Posted June 12, 2010 I Understand, thanks for explaining! :gday_mate_haveabeer:
Silverspeed 10 Posted June 12, 2010 Greg is mistaken the Portofino with the Portuguese which has the seconds @6. The Portofino has the regular A7750 with the seconds at 9...so no modifications and thus a reliable movement
greg_r 81 Posted June 12, 2010 Whoops. :Talk to the Hand: Pass me the stupid hat, somebody... Thanks for the correction, Silver - I'm getting my IWCs in a twist again. I was sure I'd got 'em the right way round this time too! Sorry!
debian 0 Posted June 12, 2010 Ok, then I dont understand This might be a good rep then? It looks like the real thing to me...
graman 2 Posted June 13, 2010 Portofino is a lovely watch....well repped, quite dressy. I like them a great deal, they're just 11 on my top 10 list..... Go for it mate!...great movement, reliable.....write a review with pics! :
greg_r 81 Posted June 13, 2010 Yep, the portofino (as opposed to the Portuguese ) is a very good rep. *crawls back into his hole* B)
Silverspeed 10 Posted June 13, 2010 Strange really that we don't see that many Portofinos on the boards....it sure is a good looking watch From what I remember the standard rep AR is, as usual way too blue, so when the light hits the dial you'll get that strong blue hue which would bother me. Gen IWC's have verry good colourless AR. On the white dial Portofino this will not be so strong...or you can send it out to a modder to get rid of the standard rep AR.
