Straightening a ever so slightly bent watch stem? Crown fouling CG

Recommended Posts

SSTEEL

Watch is a PAM Regatta.

Basically the stem is ever so slightly bent, and as a result, with the crown guard is fitted, the crown fouls the crown guard every half turn. Crown turns nice and smooth with CG removed.

I noticed on my bench when rolling the stem/crown, you can see the crown simulate a buckle, like a bicycle wheel that is buckled.

Does anyone know how to true this stem, or is it a case of sourcing a replacement?

Thanks guys :)

Aye you are right, will try and source a new stem assembly.

I have inspected the stem closer, and the stem itself is not bent, but its the threaded collar which attaches to the stem and in part then screws into the crown. Its this small part at fault, its like tin metal, and is damaged internally

As a watchmaker I say yes. I have never needed to straighten a stem, ever. If you have a bent stem you can not buy you make one not straighten it. The number of times you can not obtain a stem is so small as to be a non event anyway. I just replaced a stem in a 120 year old pocket watch and out of stock at that.

Indeed Col, this may prove difficult to find, and may require my grey matter being pushed to the limits. I'm sure I will find a way to fix it :)
