Amifsin 0 Posted October 29, 2013 Hi, I am new here and I am trying to learn the ropes on this new hobby of mine. I have just bought my first A.Lange & Sohne Datograph with a Venus 75 automatic[ that what it is written] Well can somebody be kind and maybe explain some information regarding this movement please. Thank you all for any info. Alf.
SSTEEL 0 Posted October 29, 2013 Welcome to RWG Which TD did you buy it from? There should be some info about the movement on their site, no?
gran 198 Posted October 29, 2013 I think the dealer that sold you the watch does not know movements very well. Was he a criminal? The hand wind asian Venus 175 is a good movement I have not seen the automatic version of this movement in more than one replica...please provide pictures of your movement for a more detailed comment from me
greg_r 81 Posted October 29, 2013 Firstly, it's not auto - it's going to be a hand-wind movement. Secondly it's not a Venus 75 - it's a Sea-gull ST19 (often referred to as 'Copy Venus'). Take a look at the movements sticky here: http://www.rwg.bz/board/index.php?showtopic=6930

Amazing what a bit of actual searching can find.....putting Venus 75 movement into Google pops this from RWI in as the second hit http://www.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/copy-venus-75-31771.html And a search in our very own searchbox throws up a thread with a link to this http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/91877-lemania-2310-venus-175-seagull-st-19/ And of course in the New members section there is this stickie on movements. http://www.rwg.bz/board/index.php?showtopic=6930 Absolutely amazing what you'd find when you spend 15 seconds doing a search. Welcome to RWG!!! Might be worth signing up on other forums as well, makes the searching easier. And as Gran said, this is a handwind movement not an automatic so not sure the dealer you bought from knows much either

Amifsin 0 Posted October 29, 2013 Hi All, Thank for your feedback. actually I did a Google search but since as it is said the description of Venus 75 auto it seems not the right name. As it is being said, quote : "Firstly, it's not auto - it's going to be a hand-wind movement. Secondly it's not a Venus 75 - it's a Sea-gull ST19 (often referred to as 'Copy Venus')." so that is why I had some problems to find reference to it. I have ordered this watch to-day, so it will be some time before I receive it, but I will try to post pictures. Now with all your help I can search for the Sea-gull ST19. Thank You All. Alf. trailboss99 994 Posted October 29, 2013 They discontinued the Auto already? Sheesh it's only a couple of years old. Mind you why hide such a beautiful MVT behind a rotor? Actually technically it's not a copy Venus175, it is the Venus175. Sea-Gull bought the rights, blueprints and the machinery for the movement back in 1962 so "copy" is the wrong term. The current ST-19 is an improved version of said MVT replete with a few minor improvements. It's a bloody good movement, bomb proof in it's reliability and by far the best chronograph made in China and the equal of anything made anywhere. It's also the only true column wheel chronograph MVT available in a watch under 2500 dollars or so. Here is a review of my Sea-Gull 1963 re-issue. The venerable '63 is the watch the Venus was bought to power: http://horologium.co...l-1963-reissue/ I love this watch, I wear it a lot.
