Loose bezel. How to tighten?

Recommended Posts

Is there a way to tighten a loose bezel?

Bend the click spring towards the teeth more?

First of all - the 1680 isn't supposed to click. Is it?

I've heard of a couple of ways of tightening a bezel, using both dental floss and aluminum foil.

On my phone right now but can try to dig up some links tomorrow.

Yes the famous dental floss mod. Adds at least $100 to the value of your watch + floss shipping. Aluminium foil is better used for a protective hat to stop the aliens abducting you.

I know that its bi-directional. Not sure if it clicks or not.

Would a better crystal make the bezel tighter?

I read about another member changing the crystal on his sub to a Clark and it cured their loose bezel problems.

The 1680 I would assume is the same as the 1665. If so, it's bi-directional and doesn't click. To get it tighter you need to take the bezel assembly off and first make sure the ring that fastens down the the crystal is pressed all the way down on the case. That's the most important step. Then you can put a little more bend in the spacer that gives the pressure. Then snap the bezel back onto the watch. This is from memory since I don't have any pictures but that's the basics of what I remember.

Also, I don't think the other two methods will work on this one.

Yes. Thank you, KBH. ;) I had my doubts about the floss and aluminum methods too.

As I mentioned, another member replaced his crystal with a Clark's 127, and that fixed his loose bezel. He probably had a loose retaining ring to begin with.

Yeah, I think that other member was me.

As I recall, the Clark is on the left.

I'll probably be adding a Clark regardless. The crystal looks better.

The thread I saw was on that other RWG site.

Thanks for the pics, KBH.
