TheTinMan 13 Posted January 16, 2014 Okay, well it's not so much of a collection as it's only one right now. I forgot how well built Seikos were since I've long parted with my two. I saw this watch on one of the gen forums and had to have it. Ordered it on a Thursday, was on my wrist the next day. It's the Seiko Superior SSA053K1. I've been so happy with it, I haven't worn a rep in a week now. Anyway, some eye candy:

TheTinMan 13 Posted January 16, 2014 Nice pics Tin, how does that compass work? In all honesty, I have no idea. If I think of it, I'll look it up when I get home. It's a lovely little watch though, and I'm super happy with it so far.

Oldbaldcheater 0 Posted January 18, 2014 (edited) Yah those are beautiful. Nuclear lume as per usual with Seiko. Over the past 10 years, I've bought and sold hundreds of watches, and only 2 have stuck with me from the beginning...my Sumo and my 6309. As for the compass, it follows the same rules as a bezel compass: While keeping the dial level, point the hour hand in the direction of the sun. 2 Set “S (South)” on the rotating compass bezel (ring) to the middle point of the arc between the 12 o’clock marker and the time scale indicated by the hour hand. * In the AM period, set the rotating compass bezel (ring) to the middle point of the arc to the left of the 12 o’clock marker. In the PM period, set the bezel (ring) to the middle point of the arc to the right of the 12 o’clock marker. 3 “N (North),” “S (South),” “E (East),” and “W (West)” on the rotating compass bezel (ring) indicate the directions of “north,” “south,” ”east,” and “west,” respectively. P.S. this is for northern hemisphere....if you're south, it's inverse. Edited January 18, 2014 by Oldbaldcheater

mrtsumoto80 0 Posted January 28, 2014 Awesome watch! The compass sadly works only at the northern hemisphere! I have also a seiko with a useless compass since I´m in Ecuador lol
TheTinMan 13 Posted February 8, 2014 I added to my collection this week. I found this beauty at a local auction house and picked it up for dirt cheap. It's vintage, from the 70s and it shows its age, or I prefer to think it shows its character. It's so comfortable, I forget I'm wearing it sometimes.
drumike102 0 Posted February 10, 2014 I need to stop looking at these collection threads!! Makes me want to buy buy buy!!!!!!

May I ask how much "dirt cheap" was? This model Seiko was actually the first auto chronos in space, so it's got a history. Everything works well, although the dial is slightly misaligned. I found a local Seiko authorized dealer/watchsmith so I may take it in for a tune up. All I will say was it was well under $50. They pop up on the Bay for auction once a week. The buy it now prices are usually $200 to 300 so I think I did well, not that I plan on selling it.
