Jonnybaws 5,280 Posted February 5, 2014 The more I look at them the more I want one (ok, may 2 or 3).. I see you can order from them direct. I have my eye on a few, I think the first one I'll pull the trigger on is Steinhart Ocean Vintage Military.. Prices indicated are VAT and nonVAT, I assume I'd pay the VAT price (plus shipping) and therefore not be hit by any import duty, esp. seeing purchase is within the EU? I'm favouring that option too, nothing against Chronomaster. but I'd rather buy direct from the manufacturer if possible.
scorpion 0 Posted February 5, 2014 Hmmm..if they give you the option not to pay VAT then technically you could break the UK VAT law and save 20% with probably a 1 in 50 chance of it getting stopped. You would then have to pay the VAT and possibly an extra 5 to 10% depending on who stops it and their fee, often its DHL or UPS who ship it that stop it and charge an admin fee. So are you a gambling man or will you play it safe ???????
R1evans 0 Posted February 5, 2014 They know by the delivery address whether to add the vat.To avoid this, get a member from outside the EU to purchase it for you, then send it on to you. Then its a case of running the customs gauntlet. He who dares Rodney and all that.

I'll pay the VAT, if it goes stopped, like you've said I'll have to end up paying the processing fee that the likes of DHL and UPS charge!

NFleischer 4,355 Posted February 7, 2014 So for those of us here in the states, we don't pay VAT?
rusty peters 0 Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) So for those of us here in the states, we don't pay VAT? Correct. No VAT for Yankees. That Ocean Vintage is living in my head rent free. I think I will go that direction next...instead of a rep. I might have to open the case and dump some dirt in the movement if I ever miss rep life. You do know that the Steinhart movements don't have TWENY-Five jewels, right? I am so funny. Edited February 7, 2014 by rusty peters
nute 1 Posted February 7, 2014 You won't regret it, they make great watches. If buying from the UK you will have to pay vat, no way round it. No import duty if you buy from within the EU tho.
