Recommended Posts

Got this Big Pilot rep for repair yesterday and can't even find how to release the stem! :o

I'm really getting into a war with this watch already :P

Anyone knows the answer?

I'd need a bit more high res image to be of real help, but try this -- pull out the crown and move it back in several times, while paying close attention if any of the screws move while you do it. Usually if there is a screw holding the stem it will pivot slightly when you pull out the crown.

Otherwise, pull out the crown all the way, and see if there is a tab that presents itself when the crown is all the way out. Then I think you depress the tab to remove the stem.

Those are the two other common stem release mechanisms I am aware of.

"See where the stem threads disappear under the bridge about a 1/4 of the way up the movement? Look to the right of that and up just a tiny bit and you will see a hole with a tiny pin in the center of it. OK now once you find that VERY VERY CAREFULLY push that pin in as you are pulling the stem out BUT and this is a HUGE BUT..it is super easy to push too far and screw the keyless movement up..so remember it only need be pushed the least bit so proceed with caution."

This is indeed true, but didn't work for me till I released some pressure by unscrewing the screw at the right of the lever :)

When the crown is in winding position their will be a lever visible with a small hole/pin (whatever it is...). Just like some of the seiko movements :) First it didn't work, maybe because I was too careful, scared to break something. When pussing it with a bit more power it worked and the stem came out :)

The repair is done and the watch will be returned to the owner today :) Glad I learned something again :D
