Olig7475 0 Posted June 3, 2014 So I got my Blackbird a couple of days ago from one of our TD's, it's been working fine but I could hear the rotor catching on something so I opened it up and these fell out!!!!! Are they critical parts? everything is working just fine, not sure what to do.
court 12 Posted June 3, 2014 They look like tabs that hold the movement in the case to me. Easy fix

agntkerr 0 Posted June 3, 2014 Where there is smoke there is fire...check to make sure no other parts are about inside the movement. One little anything that gets into the gears and no more movement.
scozzie 0 Posted June 3, 2014 Yeah, looks like a loose movement holder tab. As court said, easy to put back in. There should be either one or two others equally spaced around the outside edge of the movement. and case, Take a look for those and you will see how and where to put it back in. P4GTR 0 Posted June 3, 2014 pic of watch movement please, lets see what's what and go from there.
trailboss99 997 Posted June 3, 2014 Yeah, look for the holes with sheared off screws in 'em. If they have sheared level this won't be an easy fix. Lucky those didn't end up in the hairspring!
Olig7475 0 Posted June 3, 2014 They look like tabs that hold the movement in the case to me. Easy fix Not that easy, it appears that both screws have sheared off . . . oh yes on closer examination of the screw head, there isn't any screw on it.......How important are these to the watch operation can it survive without it? JSJ 0 Posted June 3, 2014 Unfortunately, not unusual in my experience. Sheered off is bad because the remaining bits of the screws are likely to be still in the movement. It will operate without it and like said ^, you seem to have all the bits, which is good. Worst thing is if they are lurking inside the movement. Operating it without the holders is not good because the movement is likely to flop about inside the case. Pic of the movement would be very helpful. Has the watch been dropped? I suspect you need a watchsmith to help you with this.
Olig7475 0 Posted June 3, 2014 i'll get a couple of snaps with the back off

Mike on a bike 0 Posted June 3, 2014 Best send to a smith post haste unless your really handy and have the right tools.
court 12 Posted June 3, 2014 As the more eagle eyed had spotted the screws look as if they are sheered off. That mean the remaining threaded part of the screw will still be lodged in the hole it belongs in. These part of the screw need to come out and then new screw be inserted so that the tabs hold the movment in place. More complicated and fidly than I first though. Mike on a bike 0 Posted June 3, 2014 Tired line but true "upon getting a watch have it serviced/ looked over by a smith" just the cost of doing biz................

True but tapping those suckers ain't gonna be fun and hopefully they are stuck in as floating around could be worse.
Olig7475 0 Posted June 3, 2014 a couple of pics of the movement, you can see where the screw should be! everything is so bloody small i'll never be able to sort it. Would it be worth taking it to a watch smith? what about a blob of glue on the mount would that do the job?
P4GTR 0 Posted June 3, 2014 If it's running currently, hack the movement for now.
J!m 289 Posted June 3, 2014 OH! This could be a problem... The clamp is from the ring, not the movement aparently. That is bad because the ring is most likley a blind hole so getting it out WILL be a problem. The movement main plate is through-tapped so there are more options for dealing with that... On the other hand, you can send the ring only to a watchsmith and they might be able to burn it out with Alum or whatever they sell from Bergeon...
P4GTR 0 Posted June 3, 2014 So, a total of one movement tab and one screw head, correct? It sheered off, what's left of the screw is in the hole. The parts are out of the movement, which is a good thing. Check the other two movement holder screws to make sure they are tight. If things are not moving around, you may be able to get away with the two movement holders alone. Anything else is going to require some doing.
Olig7475 0 Posted June 3, 2014 checked the other two screws, very gently, and they appear to be nipped up tight. It looks like the thread snappped off at the head so all of the thread is still in the hole, would a blob of this stuff hold it sufficiently?
