brum123 0 Posted July 12, 2014 Having bought a few very cheap watches abroad, I stumbled across the forum just over 3 months ago. Since then I have been on the slippery slope of 'learning a lot about watches but also getting consumed with the need to buy more!' Here's my experience over the last three months: First few weeks Realised the watches I had bought abroad generally bared no resemblance to the genuine models ...in two cases were actually complete fantasy models Did the classic first post of '...where do a buy a watch like this?' A few weeks after Realised the value of reading through the threads and searching the history ...lots of great information and advice Gave in to the fact I'm an IWC fan and started searching for the first buy through a TD Used some advice to 'fix/tidy up' a couple of my watches Best advice - dental floss to tighten bezel - thanks Onzenuub ...transformed my TAG aquaracerBest quick fix site - Sentime ...bought a couple of cheap replacement straps By end Month two Two new watches ordered through TDs and delivered. Favourite TD is Tim at Watchfinder - I did a feedback post following my purchase and receipt of a QC video Realised there's little chance of getting off the slippery slope Just before I put a few photos on ...some final thoughts as a newbie: I'm a big IWC fan ...although can't quite see the appeal of Pans, I'm finding myself consistently to Pan related posts I've been happy with quartz as i change watch regularly and saves re-setting ...but next watch will be automatic ...again being drawn to automatic side Both the above another clear indication of a slippery slope! The photos: First TD buys (IWC 3838 via Watchfinder and IWC 5101 via Silix) Both have subtle but pretty good sunburst effect The TAG with a fixed Bezel Two fantasy IWC's from abroad and an Omega with a very non-Gen blue colour! My favourites of my cheapie watches from abroad (and one of the closest replicas front and back) The collection as it stands

millionaire wannabe 1 Posted July 12, 2014 Nice collection already! Wow! At this rate you'll have about 32 watches in the the first year, and 320!!!!!! In a decade! It is a slippery sloppy slope that we're all rocketing down, pell mell, full throttle!
TheSav 2 Posted July 12, 2014 Nice round up. now you just need a nice box to store them all in.
zero_deficit 0 Posted July 12, 2014 Good stuff there Brum!
brum123 0 Posted July 12, 2014 Thanks chaps for the comments And for Millionaire wannabe - I've only two watches this year so far ...the others range from 1 year to 3 years old ...and amazingly still working well. But the idea of 32 watches a year appeals! ...just need to think of the rationale argument to convince my wife I need many more watches! cheers

brum123 0 Posted July 12, 2014 Scotch / Tequila / Poopy TAGs! Think I know where you are coming from! - I am falling slowly away from the TAGs (although I still love the Carrera brown dial one) and as per my initial post starting to see some interest in Pams! Also as each week ticks over I'm getting pulled more and more to Rolex's ...which were never a draw to me before. But I suppose that is the beauty of this hobby - each to their own and nothing (even our taste in watches) stands still!
