jdog 1 Posted August 7, 2014 While on my hunt to find the next build, I typed vintage rolex into the google search bar to see if something different grabs me. With thousands of results coming in, the search began. The usual suspects were all on the page. The 5514 comex, 1680 white sub, double red SD and all the like. Then there stood one I hadn't really seen often. A 1961 5512 Gilt 2 liner. Most 5512 produced from the mid to late 60's were the more common 4 liner's with white markings. More common was its cousin the 5513 around this time period so there aren't too many of the early 5512 2 liners let alone with gilt dials. The watch started out its life as a cartel 5512 case with the correct lug engravings and the usual markings. Drilled the lugs and reshaped the case and cg’s by hand and gave it a nice polish leaving the typical desk dives and swirls one would see on a 40 yr old wach that has been cleaned up from time to time. Sourced a dial from whoopy next door and aged it a bit with a slight matte finish. An Athya V1 702 crown and tube I had lying around were set in place and it started to come together. A used service crystal off the bay was next, followed by a WSO bezel assembly and clarks insert. Naturally faded of course A pair of gen 80 endlinks were sourced as well as a 7206 Yuki rivet bracelet with gen clasp. Up next is a vintage lube and the change the crown out for a gen or V2 from Athya. On to the pics. I hope you enjoy them.

BadPickle 2,749 Posted August 7, 2014 Niiiice Jason, very nice, but needs the "mud bath" treatment for sure, lovely case re-shape, bet that was an exersize in patience . Don't see many of these bad boys around. Top marks mate
BC1221 44 Posted August 7, 2014 great work! amazed at how you stretched the stubby cartel CGs. those 702 Crowns make a world of difference. do you have to drill the tube hole bigger on a cartel case to fit a atheya tube?

Don't see many of these bad boys around. Top marks mate Haha...Thanks bud. Im not quite on par with the likes of JJ or Jerkstore yet, but Im honing the case skill more and more. Cheers! great work! amazed at how you stretched the stubby cartel CGs. those 702 Crowns make a world of difference. do you have to drill the tube hole bigger on a cartel case to fit a atheya tube? Thanks man. Slowley and carefully. I do alot more hand shaping than using the dremel. One sec too long and its shot. Just a bit of widening at the tip (Thanks Jim for that one). The first one snapped, not the first time either, trying to countersink the tube.
