SMP dial question ... metalic outlines

Recommended Posts

RevBob

Hi all;

I just received my Omega SMO rep.

It was inexpensive and is a great rep, but I have noticed a few faults.

First it has a flat crown rather that the domed or stepped crown of the original.

I have also noticed something that seems to be common to all of the SMP reps, even the expensive models.

The hour markers on the original seem to have a metal surround. My rep and the pictures of the reps I have seen don't have this metal surround.

The original also appears to have bright metalic outlines on the 12 and 6 baton markers.

It is really hard to tell in any of the photos. I had an original a few years back and I think I remember the bright metal outlines on the hour markers.

Of course the photos where I have noticed the metalic linings are magnified many times.

Can anyone confirm that the SMP has these metal outlines?

Thanks

RevBob

Genuine. I don't see any bright metal outlines.

Replica. All the same.

From what I have noticed only the new models (with Seamaster written in red) have metal outlines.

My SMP I got from Mary looks like the the gen pic, even the marker coloring, but with a domed crown.

Thanks JMD.

It is the model with the red writing.

Is this the latest Omega version of the SMP?

This is driving me nuts.................

If you go to an AD you will notice the newer bonds that have the metal Omega symbols and seamster written in red have metal outlines on the indicies. I have the black gen where that is true - I'm not sure if all the blue ones are made that way yet (if not, I bet it's coming).

Just to confuse you even more Rev, there's an SMP rep of a quartz model, powered by an auto movement. It too has Seamaster in red but just 'professional' with no 'chronometer' on the dial...B)
