gB. 0 Posted October 4, 2010 Bottom line for the newbies, "noobmariner" or "noobfactory" has no current meaning in the marketplace and is only false marketing rubbish for a production model that no longer exists. The 16610 and 16610LV subs you will see with one of these types of labels will have a 99% chance of being the exact same watch made from the exact same factory. Shop on price and buy from the dealer you feel most comfortable with and/or has the best overall deal. That's a wrap!
andygt 0 Posted October 4, 2010 Compared to what's available now the noobfactory stuff ain't all that anyway - surely the term was coined as it was a decent cheap sub pefect for 'who has the best sub' noobs and meant as a slightly derogatory label. I know the dial was well done but I really don't see why it has become so sought after to the point where it's used a marketing tool.

Well I think the so called "Noob' Ceramic subs by BK, for example, are actually really nice. Don't underestimate the power of a brand name in the market place. BTW- I sent a PM to him just to get his take on this big Noob controversy. Let you know what he says.
Luthier 1 Posted October 4, 2010 Now can we get back to Noobfactory. My question to the experts is: You say they are/were made in Thailand by a small group/family of importers. So if I'm following this correctly, the actual watch parts were still coming from China, probably Ghuanzou. And, apparently the family/group that was assembling and selling them in Thailand have quit production of most watches and all the original Noobfactory ones. So lets just say that a group in Ghuanzou are now assembling the same watches from the same parts, wouldn't they rightly be called Noob watches? Factory in Ghuanzou was relocated to Guangzhou. And, no, it's not the same parts, because Maria's family modified cases quite well. Chinese don't do it. Same with dials, hands, etc. MBW had different sources for these parts, probably in Taiwan, not sure.
NFleischer 4,355 Posted October 4, 2010 Well I just received info. from BK. He said the factory is in GZ (? ShenZhen) and they are the same people who made the original NoobMariner sold in Thailand. The stuff he said is all MADE in China, perhaps assembled elsewhere. WM9 is involved with the production by making casemolds. BK mentioned that they do make OTHER models and the volume of production is HUGE. Most resellers over there deal with them. According to him, the quality is in general much better than the other 'factories' I am no expert in all these details, just an avid collector passing on the information from a very well respected dealer. PS- I'm not sure why these threads get so personal and nasty.
AllergyDoc 40 Posted October 4, 2010 Curiouser and curiouser. The threads get personal and nasty because some people are mane and nasty Most are just bored and like to argue.
sconehead 5 Posted October 4, 2010 PS- I'm not sure why these threads get so personal and nasty. Anonimity makes people act differently than they would in real life...it's an unfortunate side effect that the internet suffers from mate...here we allow freedom of speech more than other sites...sadly, sometimes, people take advantage of this for petty reasons and sometimes, for real reasons...what you have seen unfold, simply unfolds...sometimes it's funny, at others, it isn't...
