Left Coast Guy 24 Posted August 27, 2014 If a genuine is a genuine because Rolex says so, what are you really buying -- a watch, or the prestige that comes along with buying a watch from Rolex? It seems to me like the latter. And really, the root of the word prestige, meaning a showiness or an illusion in the latin and french origins, seem fitting -- you buy a genuine watch from Rolex for the showiness or the illusion of wealth and respectability. J!m 289 Posted August 27, 2014 What I love most about Rolex is they charge you a grand for a service on your 1680 which was worth about ten grand going in. After they replace all the key parts (on a trade in basis) the watch is worth about six grand. Total loss: five grand. The way I see it, we are all suckers for buying the Rolex koolaid.
