Removing baby pube and minor date window alignment

Recommended Posts

Being out of practice, I removed the 6 screws on the case back thinking it would be an easy job. It wasn't. Looked around the bezel ring and there was no notch to assist with popping the ring/crystal. I was almost going to give up and just sell the thing until I remembered I had a bezel remover and thought I'd give it a whirl.

Damn Tapatalk stopped licensing the image editor so these pictures are a bit rough.

See the baby pube betweeen 12 and 1? No? Only shows up at certain angles.

Bezel removed -- easy with the right tool.

There's that baby pube.

Gently pry the dial/movement out.

Everything is held in place by the stem, pressed bezel, and a few slivers of double stick tape. I wonder if this is how the Swiss do it? Probably higher calibre tape I surmise.

Here is my makeshift method to realign the date window. Notice I said date window and not date wheel because technically I'm not moving the latter. Understand how it's done? HINT: The rubber handle on the large screwdriver has something to do with it.

I thought I had a close up pic of the misalignment but here is the fixed version.

Gentle press to reaffix the bezel/crystal. The initial "snap" always makes me cringe as I've cracked a crystal once. Granted that was a glass caseback that I didn't take care to protect and not a front crystal.

Before fully sealing, ensure there is no crap left behind. In this case, you see the big chunk of whatever and a small dot of white dust under the center of the dial.

Almost complete. Swap the strangely soft, but too long strap for something I have in the drawer. Bit darker but I like it.

Wow my pictures are pretty terrible this time. I'll have to wait for daylight.
