Exalfa 0 Posted October 31, 2010 Hi, Looking forward to learning all about replicas and eventually maybe buying a couple. Also, one thing that's bugged me for a while - do servicing watchmakers ever switch out genuine movements for snide ones ? And if I could get the back off my (genuine*) watch (no obvious notch to stick a pen knife in) would it be obvious ? * bought when drunk in Switzerland in 1998 and regretted ever since

greg_r 81 Posted November 1, 2010 Welcome to RWG! With regard to the movement, I won't say that it's never happened, but it's not something I'd expect (unless the watch has purposely been built from a mixture of gen and aftermarket parts, which a lot of the guys here do for their own enjoyment). trailboss99 996 Posted November 1, 2010 Welcome mate. Not saying it doesn't happen but I've never heard of it happening. What sort of watch are we talking? Col.
Exalfa 0 Posted November 1, 2010 Welcome mate. Not saying it doesn't happen but I've never heard of it happening. What sort of watch are we talking? Col. Thanks for the welcomes. The watch is an Omega 1502.40.
greg_r 81 Posted November 1, 2010 Hmm - seems pretty unlikely in that case. Any half-decent watchsmith will be able to check for you, or you can unscrew the back (you'll probably need a caseback tool to do so) and take a quick look yourself
trailboss99 996 Posted November 1, 2010 Yeah mate, the back unscrews on that watch, it's not a snap back. Damn nice watch BTW, why regret the purchase? Col.

It doesn't look like a screw back, there's no cutouts to anchor anything ? I regret it (although I like it at the same time) because I feel guilty spending so much money on a watch even if I could/can afford it.

Baldrick 1 Posted November 2, 2010 Sorry to say mate, that does look like a bit of a moody kettle, the upper bezel rider at 3 is defo off-square, the crown looks a bit 'pointy', the lume dot at '2' indice doesn't look square on and the case-back looks kinda 'tin-platey', it could just be perspective and the quality of the photos tho' ! I've had that same model and followed by two Double Eagles, the case quality and detail was superb on all of them, You don't sound confident about your purchase, ( when you ask about the mov't being switched out), so, what's causing the negativity? Dun have any photos of the standar Connie, ( I didn't have digital media when I had it and I never snapped 35mm stuff then ) but these were the 2x later Connie Doubles that I had ! Exalfa 0 Posted November 3, 2010 Hi Baldrick, Thanks for that. I don't think it is fake. It was bought in a AD in Switzerland with a nice red leather box and credit card warranty thingy. It's a bit beat up but then I've worn it nearly every day since I got it. Good spots on the picture though - the weird thing is neither is apparent with the naked eye so it must be down to my (lack of) photography skills. Your pix are amazing BTW - real watch porn ! The question about switching out the movement was just me being paranoid - who knows what goes on when you hand over your watch to a complete stranger for servicing ? I'd still like to get the back off and have a poke around though. Anyway, I might be about ready to take the plunge and get my 1st rep - quite fancy an Aqua Terra I saw on one of the dealer sites. Cheers

If you boughyt it at anAD, you've nothing to fret about, it looks as tho it might just be "overly worn" PS,,, if you're gonna get an Aqua Terra, this is the one to get
68 Bullit 0 Posted November 3, 2010 Hi and welcome from a misplaced Geordie, nice Connie, I did something similar a while back with a Tag Heuer chrono 2000, sold it recently to my friend as it wasn't getting any wrist time.
