Soopah Spy 0 Posted November 18, 2014 I've been really digging on mid-century chronos lately, especially those from under-the-radar brands like Wakmann, Poljot, Universal Geneve', etc. If you fine folks wanted a fine gen 30's-60's chrono, and you had, say, $600 to spend on it... What would you go for? Looking for round case, something I could put on a really nice leather strap. Thoughts? Pictures? Do you own one you highly recommend? What pitfalls should I be aware of in searching for one of these? Input welcome and requested.
Wriggles 12 Posted November 18, 2014 Read an article today on the Croton Chronomaster from 60s. Looks very interesting column wheel chronograph. Made with various movements over the years the Valjoux 23 apparently being the pick of the bunch. Might be worth a look into. Know I will
Soopah Spy 0 Posted November 18, 2014 I see a lot of midrange brands with "Landeron" cam-switched chrono movements. Anyone have an opinion on these movements? I've never owned one.
Soopah Spy 0 Posted November 20, 2014 Delbana - These seem to use the Landeron movements for the most part, but with a smattering of Venus and Valjoux in the higher-end models.

Soopah Spy 0 Posted November 20, 2014 Avia chronos seem to eschew arabic numerals, for the most part:
Soopah Spy 0 Posted November 20, 2014 Cauny chronos. The 'Prima' is a model I'm finding pretty often in searches. And a nice shot of the Landeron 248 movement, with a Cauny marked bridge:
Soopah Spy 0 Posted November 20, 2014 Sadly, it looks like most of the Universal Geneve' chronos I'm seeing are well out of my price range... but... SO PRETTY....
Dr. Jimmy 29 Posted November 20, 2014 My fav; Girard-Perregaux Excelsior Park, although I prefer the steel ones myself.
Soopah Spy 0 Posted November 20, 2014 Strela chronos were made in the USSR by Poljot, and were originally issued to command officers in the Air Force. 'Strela' means 'Arrow'.
UmpaHimself 223 Posted November 20, 2014 Wow, I like that one. What size range are these roughly?
Soopah Spy 0 Posted November 20, 2014 Wow, I like that one. What size range are these roughly? Most of the ones I'm finding are running between 33mm and 38mm, give or take. The Strelas run a wee bit bigger, as they are 60's-80's manufacture. The others are mostly in the 40's-50's era, so they're actually pretty decently sized for the time. Soopah Spy 0 Posted November 20, 2014 My fav; Girard-Perregaux Excelsior Park, although I prefer the steel ones myself. Oh, that is lovely. I would rock that in a heartbeat. I also found some Baume & Mercier sort of like this...
