Mike 1108 0 Posted December 10, 2014 Hey Guys, My daughter is getting married Jan 17th and wants to buy her future husband a watch as a gift for the big event (probably my influence). They are still relatively young (27 and 28) and still establishing themselves, so she is not looking to spend big money. But with $1500, she should be able to get him something worth wearing and keeping. So, any ideas ? For this, a rep is not an option, but it doesn't have to come from an AD. She would like to get him a black leather, or alligator, dress watch. Automatic. I have found a few Longines, Hamilton, and Baume & Mercier, Ball, etc. A B&M Classima 10075 is the leader at the moment (see link). But I saw a nice Ball Train Streamliner at an AD that fit nicely as well (second link). http://www.jomashop.com/baume-mercier-watch-m0a10075.html http://www.jomashop.com/ball-watch-nm1060dljbkbk.html If you have ideas and/or helpful suggestions, let me know. Thanks, Mike

Mike 1108 0 Posted December 11, 2014 I found this as I was looking.... It's surprising what you can find for $1500 I may need a "giving away the bride gift". After all, I don't want to be late to the wedding.
graman 2 Posted December 11, 2014 For a dress watch, go the RW..... Mind you, the ball is nice, or a longines classique......

nunu78 1,743 Posted December 11, 2014 http://www.authenticwatches.com/tag-heuer-aquaracer-caf101e-ba0821.html Retail price is 2600$ but its on sale for 1495$.
headhunt3r 0 Posted December 11, 2014 Does your future son-in-law have other watches? If this is his first watch, I'd try to convince her to get him something other than a dress watch so he could wear it more often.
Ishmael 92 Posted December 11, 2014 I love my Eberhard & Co. Traversetolo. Gorgeous case and great lume to boot! Looks awesome on a croc strap too. Hard to find though, which makes it even more desirable.
Mike 1108 0 Posted December 11, 2014 All good suggestions. I've forwarded them on to my daughter - I don't think she can go wrong with any of these. Thanks again for the help. Mike
Daywatch 4 Posted December 11, 2014 http://www.authentic...01e-ba0821.html Retail price is 2600$ but its on sale for 1495$. It´s repped in black or white and it´s perfect, even comes with the same Ronda quartz and functions at 6 (1/10 counter for 1 minute 12 hours counter afterwards) as the gen. The rep is high quality (don´t say this often) regarding feel of the pushers and threads of the screw-in-crown/ bracelet. In the $1500 range I would pick the Longines Hydroconquest or a Hamilton automatic http://www.jomashop.com/longines-mens-watch-l36424566.html The other story (which does not apply here) is imo it´s better either to get $1500 worth of reps or save up for a more expensive next-level gen (Tudor or Breitling next step)

SteveA 309 Posted December 12, 2014 Hamiltons are good bang for buck and some great models in this price bracket,I love the classic Jazzmaster auto.
Gacko 0 Posted December 16, 2014 That Longines hydroconquest feels so badly made that any cheapy rep will felt better especially the bracelet.
SteveA 309 Posted December 16, 2014 I have a full polished steel Longines Hydroconquest bought 5yrs ago and is probably one of the best made watches I have ever come across, especially the bracelet, really heavy, tight ,well fitting links etc.
Gacko 0 Posted December 17, 2014 Than they simply started making rubish. I was buying a gen watch for around 1000eur this summer and went to local dealer and tried it and was instantly turned off because of flimsy and cheap bracelet.
McJules 396 Posted December 17, 2014 what about a stunning longines legend diver? can look very nice with a more formal strap, like a navy blue gator and would be a great everyday watch as well. very versatile in term of style depending on what you strap it on
rockpool 0 Posted December 17, 2014 Why not find something made in the year of his birth - a classic used omega for example?

machiavegli 6 Posted December 17, 2014 If you search the Chrono24 app, you can search for "watch" in search box, then filter by price between $1200-$1500. Over 5000 hits, all gen, some AWESOME Wish I'd done it before, honestly -Mach
