mattstone83 0 Posted January 15, 2015 Hi all, recently bought an oiler kit and keen to whip the backs off sone of my cheaper reps and get servicing. Does anyone know what type or grade of oil is best for the rotor bearings in automatic watches?
D_Chico 0 Posted January 15, 2015 ETA recommends Moebius 9010 in most bearings.. I use either that or the Moebius HP1300.. Those are fairly expensive though ($30) but they're what 90% of the movement is oiled with.. You could also use the less expensive alternative Novostar ($10)
myaz 3 Posted January 15, 2015 Silicone has been suggested here and I have used that.
kiki8704 0 Posted January 15, 2015 Ive used silicone grease with great success. Had it lying around so why not. Got the idea from this thread http://www.rwg.bz/board/index.php?showtopic=79040
SSTEEL 0 Posted January 15, 2015 Avoid silicon grease on rotor bearings, this will build up, and stop the rotor from oscillating freely to auto wind the movement efficiently.
trailboss99 996 Posted January 15, 2015 Yeah not grease guys, grease is bad, mmmkay? TBH even sewing machine oil will do on a rotor bearing as it's just a tiny ball race. I use an all purpose synthetic watch lubricant or (at a pinch) 9010 myself. The most important point is if you think you have enough on there you have far, far too much! It only needs the tiniest amount possible.
mattstone83 0 Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) arrgg, I opened both of the ones I wanted to do before. It looks like more than a drop of oil is needed... The rotors on each watch are not winding the gears (although they will wind by hand) Does anyone know who I can send them to and have them looked at? :( I thought my lack of power reserve issues may have been a sticky rotor Edited January 15, 2015 by mattstone83
SSTEEL 0 Posted January 15, 2015 What movements are they, and where are you located?
mattstone83 0 Posted January 15, 2015 21j and 7750 i think, Located in Melb, Au but happy to send anywhere. Both are 007 omega models coincidently hah
trailboss99 996 Posted January 15, 2015 Don't forget Matt that the 7750 will wind in one direction only.
mattstone83 0 Posted January 15, 2015 yeah got it. They rotors appear to be a little wobbly on both and when pressed on slightly will engage the gear and wind, the other doesn't spin so freely
mattstone83 0 Posted January 15, 2015 Both seem to stop very shortly after long active wearing also, the 21j about 30mins. The 7750 a few hours, so varying degrees of power reserve storage which I think is due to the rotor issues?
trailboss99 996 Posted January 15, 2015 No idea, I can't take my eyes off your avatar If the rotors don't move freely when you tilt the watch then there is a problem, try a tiny bit of lube and see what happens.
kiki8704 0 Posted January 15, 2015 oh damn. silicone grease worked so well aswell lol Should I remove it? Or best to just leave it as is? Its running smooth and silently atm
trailboss99 996 Posted January 15, 2015 Leave it mate, without removing the bearing and washing it you may well just do more harm than good.
