muhnkee_2 0 Posted November 18, 2010 what a beauty: can someone rep this for me? i will pay whatever you ask!!! Original story here: http://elitechoice.org/2010/10/27/antiquor...tch-collection/ then suddenly its not for sale: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/...is-watches.html it all seems all a bit fishy, his 2nd wife tried to sell them, but the family and NZ govt intervened and are now hoping to retain them as national treasures... turns out its not really the watch he wore while climbing Mt Everest, but one he was presented with after his descent. but - he still wore it when he walked across the south pole - so its got some miles on it this is the watch he wore when he climbed Mt Everest: Other watches he owned were also up for sale: http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/2010/11/2/sir...wn-the-ori.html this guy is my absolute hero, a modest, somewhat grumpy guy with a single minded determination that never let anything stop him... muhnkee_2 0 Posted November 18, 2010 sorry to clarify, there is some confusion as to what watch he wore up the mountain - some say it was the explorer, some say he only wore it after.... makes it even more interesting is suppose!
trailboss99 996 Posted November 18, 2010 Yes, that turned into quite a saga. Lots of court drama and infighting, a pity really. It should never have come to that. Rather an insult to a great man and one of my personal heroes, I feel privileged to have met the great man twice. If it had happened it would have been quite an auction, the pre sale estimates were ludicrously low. Col.
