Hughmungus 0 Posted April 7, 2015 Hi. Any suggestions on how to give a canvas strap that worn out bleached look, like you live on a desert island type of look? The look of a Gunny canvas strap. I have a strap to play with and it wasn't expensive so I'm prepared to make a mistake. I thought of using actual bleach but that will probably dissolve the fabric I guess so maybe not such a good idea?. Then I thought maybe sand paper perhaps? Any ideas gratefully received. Cheers Hugh
Harwood22 0 Posted April 20, 2015 That's a tough one, the process of course if done before the strap is made. Sunlight is probably the safest option
gmchris 68 Posted April 20, 2015 Oxi bleach should be safe for fabric. ?
HWG 11 Posted April 20, 2015 fine sandpaper worked on a leather strap, so I would be willing to try on a canvas strap to give it some distressing. edit to add pics: Before: After about 3 mins with fine wet/dry sandpaper:
markeym3 2 Posted April 20, 2015 You could always ask member Robinson crueso .... But seriously I once used some sandpaper gentley
elp 26 Posted April 20, 2015 diluted bleach / oven? Disclaimer: I am an explosives expert, enjoy leading people astray. Seriously, sandpaper will fluff up the fibres - think the edges of the strap in the middle: sunlight / diluted bleach are good. The former will take longer. Same disclaimer as above applies
Daywatch 4 Posted April 20, 2015 8 pounds of river rocks (not just any, the smooth one and they have to be black) 1 liter of bleach 1/4 liter of Vinegar 2 spoons of caustic soda 100 gram of baking soda 1 pair of jeans the strap a washing machine (not a top loader) Throw everything into the washing machine and use the longest&hottest program :lmao: Untested, do at Your own risk, don´t do it at home - best is to ask a neighbour to use his washing machine Here´s the vid (but do read the comments below it too) actually I´d try out the products on tiny samples or use salt&sun&years of wear
