Servicing a Tag Carrera Calibre a7750 (pic heavy)

So I was sent a Tag to service, and I must say, it was actually quite an enjoyable job. The original problem was a non-functioning chrono, but a few other details were found along the way.

First, there was removal of the movement.

Next, I removed the hands and dial

Now I begin disassembly of the movement, checking for current and future faults, beginning with the Date and Chrono Works

Moving onto the motion works

I also disassembled the mainspring, but didn't take any pics. Sometimes you just get into the zone.

And now the Keyless

Into the cleaning machine

Ahhh, clean parts

After taking out each part and inspecting it, I also pegged out the jewels on each of the plates, bridges, and c*cks.

When the cleaning was done, it was time to test the case

Passed Perfectly!

Reassembled and testing for accuracy

And a Lume shot for the topping (I didn't mess with it, but it just didn't feel right leaving it off of here, lol)

In the end, there were a few things wrong with the watch. Too much oil, misaligned operating lever, broken incabloc spring, missing incabloc cap jewel, broken cannon driver pinion and a bent yolk spring being the worst of the faults. All in all, it was a nice piece to work on, but it does remind you why a7750's aren't exactly the most trustworthy movements.

Nice write-up and pics, thank you!!! But you know what really excited me, the pic of the Ace Timer. That's what I ordered today :)

I posted on your thread. The Ace Timer has served me well. There's a couple of really expensive timers in the shop, but we've got 4 I've these that are used ALL the time, which is why I got it. Be careful though. Now that you're getting a timegrapher, you'll start accumulating so many tools you'll find that you're never satisfied with any watch you buy until you've taken the feckin' thing apart and rebuilt it, lol.

My watchmaker has already warned me about this and one thing he has made perfectly clear, there's absolutely no room for me in his shop, not even drawer space :P

Very nice...it write ups like this that give me the courage to tinker. Then I realize as I'm trying to fix my chrono Chopard and now my SO44 chrono that this is best left to others with a hell of a lot more skill then I. Thanks again...one day with the good write ups on this board like this maybe I'll be able to fix more then I break :)

Posts like this make me pop open my own watches and destroy them. Then I realize how skilled people like Irishcain are and how hamfisted I am. Awesome write up.

Very cool. I like the washing machine :) It has an old school look to it.

1 of 2. That's the inside bench for clean work. My drill press, sensitive, mini-lathe and peerless are out in the workshop (aka garage).

I'm actually trying to restore it. We have a modern L & R that's automated, but I like the only one myself. And since it doesn't integrate ultrasonic, I don't really have to worry about it peeling off gilding when it's running.

A7750 are way too complicated for my skill-set but maybe one day...
